Lazy (Weak) Glute Syndrome, also known as gluteal amnesia, is a condition in which the gluteal muscles—particularly the gluteus maximus—become weak or inactive due to prolonged sitting, poor posture, lack of physical activity, or improper movement patterns. When the glute muscles fail to activate properly, other muscles such as the lower back, hamstrings, or hip flexors compensate, leading to muscle imbalance, pain, and reduced stability.
Common symptoms include lower back pain, hip discomfort, poor posture, reduced athletic performance, and difficulty performing movements such as climbing stairs, squatting, or running. Diagnosis is typically based on physical assessment and evaluation of muscle strength and movement patterns. Treatment focuses on strengthening and reactivating the gluteal muscles through targeted exercises, stretching, posture correction, and physical therapy to restore proper muscle function and prevent further musculoskeletal problems.
